A Chinese russet and pale celadon jade "Mountain" boulder 玉雕山子及底座
Jade late Qing or earlier 玉为清晚期或更早

The front of the boulder intricately and deeply carved in high-relief with a moon and clouds over a river landscape with pavilion and undercut and centered by rockwork and branches, a maiden, possibly immortal, is playing a flute before a pavilion, pine trees, and rocks, with a kneeling attendant to her right, a carved poem to upper right referring to the playing of a flute on a moon-lit night; on the right, a sage standing on the bridge gazing on the flowing river and additional pavilions, the back of the boulder with carved pavilions and a stupa along a river cutting through overhanging rocks, with carved "子冈" mark at lower left, the jade of semi-translucent pale celadon tone with areas of scattered russet "skin", with associated wood stand carved with pine and rockwork.

H(jade): 5 3/4 in.
