Note

David Hockney, a seminal figure in British art has often portrayed his muse, Celia Birtwell a celebrated textile and fashion designer. Hockney’s historic collaboration with Tyler Graphics offered him the opportunity to use brushwork rather than lithographic crayons and in doing so, he produced the immediacy and spontaneity of his drawings. In Red Celia, the artists hand is quite evident adding to its intimacy.
