Freeman’s February 24 auction, The Gilded Age, highlights the eclectic tastes of artists and collectors in the late 19th century, led by an impressive Russian silver-gilt imperial presentation tankard. A number of fine furniture works are on offer, including Italian Rococo and Renaissance-style tables and cabinets, and a French Renaissance marble-inlaid walnut cabinet. Collectors of Gilded Age artworks will find a large selection of sporting art with extensive provenance from the 18th to early 19th centuries, including choice examples by John Nost Sartorius, Samuel Henry Alken, Pierre-Jules Mêne, a selection of British portraits by George Henry Harlow, and two rediscovered military scenes by Juliusz Fortunat Kossak and his son Woiciech Ritter von Kossak.
