Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Jonson by J. Fittler, after W. Behnes. Contemporary full green morocco, stamped in gilt, brown morocco spine labels, front and rear joints rubbed, chipping and rubbing to spine ends and some spine labels, spines faded; all edges gilt; gilt dentelles; marbled endpapers; by Charles Lewis, and with his handsome morocco binder's ticket on front paste-down of fist volume; foxing to frontispiece, offsetting onto title-page from same; scattered light foxing to some text leaves.
A handsome set of Jonson's works, bound by prominent London bookbinder Charles Lewis (1786-1836), for politician and literary editor, George Venables-Vernon, 5th Baron Vernon. Vernon was one of the last members of Parliament for Derbyshire, and a scholar of Italian literature, particularly Dante, for which he printed two works for private circulation.
