Note

The son of painter Antonio Nigreti and great nephew of Palma Vecchio, Jacopo was one of the leading painters of the late 16th/early 17th century, influenced by Tintoretto, as well as by Titian – whose Pietà he finished, along with Veronese, Giorgione, and other Central Italian Mannerists. The present work relates to several other Adorations the Master created, either frescoes or oils, such as the 1608 composition at Galleria Estense or the frescos in Chiesa dell'Inviolata in Riva del Garda and the chiesa del Corpus Dominici, Venice.
