Two Oversize Royal Crown Derby Coffee Cans
late 18th/early 19th century

Both finely painted after caricature engravings in The Passions, Humorously Delineated (first published 1773) by Timothy Bobbin (John Collier, English, 1708–1786); the first depicting an emblem of married life, 'When Filthy Lucre Joins a Man and Wife' (plate 3); the second depicting a toothpulling scene, 'The Dentist' (plate 6), both with hand-painted iron-red Royal Crown Derby mark and a hand-painted number, 36 and 24, respectively. (2).

H: 5, W: 6 1/2 in.
